The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of an unidentified cross-dresser whose lifeless body was discovered along the Katampe-Mabushi Expressway in Abuja. The shocking discovery was made in the early hours of Thursday, August 8, 2024, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the police received a distress call at approximately 7:40 a.m. on the day of the incident. The caller reported seeing a woman lying motionless on the side of the expressway. Acting swiftly, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, the police made a startling discovery: the deceased, initially presumed to be a woman, was in fact a man dressed in female clothing. The individual had no means of identification on him, complicating the task of determining his identity and background. The body was immediately transported to Maitama District Hospital, where doctors on duty confirmed that the individual was indeed dead.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, has since ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the cross-dresser’s death. The nature of the case has raised several questions, and the police are committed to uncovering the truth behind the incident. Whether foul play was involved or if the death was the result of other factors remains unclear at this stage.
The FCT Police Command is urging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward. The case has highlighted the vulnerability of individuals within the LGBTQ+ community in Nigeria, where societal stigmas and discrimination often result in tragic outcomes.
As the investigation continues, the public is advised to stay informed and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The FCT Police have assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to bring justice to the deceased and provide answers to the many questions surrounding this case.
