A policeman in Abuja has reportedly killed three individuals in an attempt to cover up a theft committed by his girlfriend.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 26th, in the bustling Apo district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving the community in a state of shock and mourning.
According to eyewitnesses, the policeman whose identity has now been disclosed as – Inspector Collins Wilson, was called to the scene of a heated argument between some individuals and his girlfriend who is only known at this time as Esther.
Witnesses say Esther had stolen the phone of a tri-cyclist whose passenger she was at the time, according to them it was when the phone rang in her possession, that it became obvious that she had committed a theft.
It was in the argument that ensued that Esther now called her boyfriend – Inspector Wilson who in a desperate bid to protect his girlfriend and conceal her crime, drew his service weapon upon arriving the scene, ordered his girlfriend to get behind him, and instantly opened fire on the people present at close range.
Two persons were killed on the spot, while a third individual is said to have died at the National Hospital in Abuja, after being rejected initially when taken to Garki Hospital for treatment.
One of those killed was a motorcyclist who had brought the policeman to the scene were his girlfriend was accused of theft, and the other was an individual who was trying to douse the situation and make peace.
According to sources, not much could be done for the third victim at the National Hospital as the doctors were said to be on strike.
Upon killing the three individuals, Inspector Wilson is said to have commandeered another tricycle, leaving the scene with his girlfriend. It would later be discovered that he abandoned the vehicle and then took a different motorcycle to the estate where he was posted for duty.
This he did in a bid to ensure that no one would trace where he had come from, however, upon hearing of the heinous crime committed, the motorcyclist who took Wilson back to base, was able to point some outraged residents to the exact location where he had taken the police officer.
The residents immediately mobilized and went over to the estate, and there Inspector Wilson was apprehended alongside his girlfriend Esther.
As at the time of filing this report, the police were yet to make an official statement regarding the case, though residents are said to have taken two of the victim’s corpse to the police command where the authorities confirmed the arrest of Inspector Wilson and promised to ensure that justice prevails in the matter.
